"When women share their stories, loudly and clearly and honestly, things begin to change - for the better."

Lily Allen

I heard (and loved!) this quote while listening to Lily Allen’s autobiography on audiobook a couple of years ago.

It captured why these types of conversations matter, and why I wanted to create this series of podcast conversations.

That’s What She Said is a series of conversations exploring the stories that shape us. Through honest, thoughtful conversations with women, we talk about identity, grief, neurodiversity, addiction, leadership, mental illness, and what it really means to navigate life and work as ourselves.

These are conversations about the things that are often hidden, softened, or rushed past, and about the power of being heard.

You can catch up on all episodes of 'That's what she said' below or on your favourite podcast platform.

Never Be Less: Recovery, Courage and Breaking Stigma - with Gemma Oaten

Actor, presenter and SEED CEO Gemma Oaten joins me to share her remarkable story of recovery and her mission to break the stigma around eating disorders. After losing 13 years of her life to illness and surviving multiple near-death experiences, Gemma rebuilt her career and her confidence, landing a role in Emmerdale and later stepping up to lead SEED, the charity founded by her parents.

In this powerful conversation, Gemma opens up about being told to “be less,” how she learned to back herself, and why kindness and early intervention matter more than confrontation. Together, she and e explore the myths that surround eating disorders, the vital role families and carers play, and how workplaces can move beyond awareness to real, inclusive support.

This episode is a reminder that recovery is possible, stigma can be challenged, and you deserve not just to survive - but to thrive.

Grief up close - with Bella Chater

An open, honest conversation about losing our mums far too soon and the often silent, complicated reality of grief. We talk about caring at the end of life, how grief shows up on ordinary days, and what support at work really looks like.

A human, practical conversation about living alongside loss, without trying to fix it or rush it away.

ADHD, identity and power of being heard - with Liz Mulhall

In this episode, Liz Mulhall shares her experience of ADHD, late diagnosis, and being misunderstood for years. We talk about identity, self-trust, and the impact of finally being heard.

A conversation about how sharing our stories can change how we see ourselves, and how others see us too.
